FOR COLLECTORS

Locked Room Murders by Robert Adey, Crossover Press, SF. 1991. $100.00

The definitive bibliography of "impossible" crimes, listing all known examples to the publication date (2019 titles), with publication date, as well as describing the problem. In the back is the solution. Very fine without dust jacket, as issued.

The Wages of Fear by Georges Arnaud, Bodley Head, London. 1952. Third Printing. $45.00

Issued in the same year as the first printing. The basis for the 1953 French film of the same title, remade in 1958 as Violent Road (aka Hell’s Highway) and in 1977 by William Friedkin as Sorcerer. Uncommon in the original format of the first edition in English. Fine in a near fine dust jacket.

The Lost Emeralds of Zarinthia by Henry Beauchamp, Knight & Millet, Boston. 1900. First Edition. $50.00

American issue. Very good. With elements of mystery and fantasy.

What Is This Mystery? By M.E. Braddon, Hilton & Co., NY. 1866. First American Edition. $100.00

Possibly the first edition. Publisher’s wrappers; chips, tears and staining; a good copy of a scarce early mystery by an important female mystery writer.

Aurora Floyd by M.E. Braddon, A.L. Burt, n.d. NY. (ca 1890). Reprint. $100.00

Very good. A bookplate signed by Braddon in 1898 quoting Browning is pasted inside the front cover. A copy of a dramatization of Lady Audley’s Secret is laid in.

The Screaming Mimi by Fredric Brown, Dutton, NY. 1949. First Edition. $35.00

Covers badly soiled, chip in spine. A good copy in dust jacket, which appears to be a neatly cut-down book club edition jacket.

Philip Marlowe’s Guide to Life by Raymond Chandler, Knopf, NY. 2005. First Edition. $25.00

Edited by Martin Asher. A compendium of quotations. Surprisingly elusive little book. Very find in dust jacket.

The Diamond Ransom Murders by Nellise Child, Knopf, NY. 1935. First Edition. $125.00

An impossible crime in which four men disappear from a limousine parked at one of the busiest streets in Los Angeles at noon. A very fine, fresh copy in dust jacket, which has a slightly sunned spine and a short tear on read panel.

One Minute Past Eight by George Harmon Coxe, Knopf, NY. 1957. First Edition. SIGNED. $65.00

A bit of foxing, else fine in a near fine dust jacket. Inscribed and signed by the author on the front endpaper.

The Cavalier’s Cup by Carter Dickson, Morrow, NY. 1953. First Edition. $75.00

Merrivale. Small partial stamp on front endpaper, else fine in price-clipped dust jacket with light wear at spine ends. In Adey.

The Horizontal Man by Helen Eustis, Harper, NY. 1946. First Edition. $45.00

Scarce Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone. Corners bumped, spine dull, else about very good.

The D’Arblay Mystery by R. Austin Freeman, Hodder & Stoughton, London. 1926. First Edition. $45.00

A Dr. Thorndyke mystery. Some cover wear, else very good.

Suspect by Hugh Lawrence Nelson, Rinehart, NY. 1954. First Edition. $45.00

Author’s last book, a private eye novel. Very fine in dust jacket.

The Tragedy of X by Barnaby Ross, Viking, NY. 1932. First Edition. $65.00

First Drury Lane mystery by Ellery Queen under this pseudonym and a Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone. Embossed on front free endpaper, else very good.

The Scarab Murder Case by S.S. Van Dine, Grosset & Dunlap, n.d. NY. Reprint. $45.00

Originally published in 1930. Very fine in an as new dust jacket except for a small nearly invisible closed tear.

The Fatal 5 Minutes by R.A.J. Walling, Morrow, NY. 1932. First U.S. Edition. $25.00

Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone. Bookplate, spine sunned and ends rubbed, else very good.
