Sally's Weekly Update for 07/16/10

Happy Friday folks.

A couple of things:
I've been out for the past three days and the emails are piling up. I haven't lost them, I just haven't replied to many of them yet. If you're waiting for an answer from me, please be patient, I'll get there!

Also, you'll notice beaucoup de signed books this week. We had the Thrillerfest party last Friday and many of the authors in attendance signed their books. In some cases, we have very few copies, so put in your orders.

The Leavenworth Case by Anna Katharine Green, Burt, NY. 1928. (Originally published in 1978) SIGNED. $375.00

Photoplay edition, with scenes from the movie inserted. Frequently (erroneously) described as the first American detective novel by a woman, this is nonetheless an important title, being chosen as a Haycraft-Queen cornerstone. Spine tips a bit rubbed, else a fine tight copy. SIGNED and inscribed by the author: "Mr. Richard Ladd Gifford/It is with pleasure I write/my name in this book/Anna Katharine Green Rohlfs/August 1928."

X Y Z by Anna Katharine Green, Putnam, NY. 1883. First Edition. $375.00

Very scarce short story collection. Issued in stiff wrappers, there are chips on the two lower corners of the front cover, a bit of rubbing to a portion of the lower spine, else very good - an unusually tight copy.

Spine lettering rubbed off , else very good or better copy of an uncommon title. SIGNED and inscribed by the author: "For my cousin/Elizabeth D. Shephard/With the constant/affection of the author/Anna Katharine Green Rohlfs/December 1909."

3rd Omnibus of Crime by Dorothy L. Sayers, Coward, NY. 1935. First U.S. Edition. $65.00

An exceptionally fine copy in the uncommon dust jacket, which is faded and chipped at the spine. A huge and important collection of 52 stories.

Too Many Cooks by Rex Stout, Farrar & Reinhart, NY. 1938. First Edition. $1,250.00

A fine, bright copy with the top edge stain as fresh as when it was published. In the original dust jacket, which is sunned on the spine, price-clipped, a dime-sized chip at bottom corner of front panel, some closed tears and lightly frayed at spine ends. Overall, a very nice copy of a very scarce book in collectors’ condition.

Where There’s a Will by Rex Stout, Farrar & Rinehart, NY. 1940. First Edition. $2,250.00

Endpapers foxed, a stain on one page, else an exceptionally bright and fresh copy in the scarce dust jacket, which is lightly worn at corners and spine tips. A lovely collector’s copy.
