FOR COLLECTORS

The Crime of the Century by Kingsley Amis, Mysterious Press, NY. 1989. First US Edition. SIGNED. $125.00

Limited to only 26 copies, lettered and signed by Amis. Fine in slipcase.

Adventures of the Infallible Godahl by Frederick Irving Anderson, Crowell, NY. 1914. First Edition. $500.00

One of the great short story collections–about a thief so good at his profession that he has never been convicted of a crime and is finally paid by the police not to commit crimes. Neat little leather bookplate inside front cover, but a fine, fresh copy of a scarce book.

Max Carrados Mysteries by Ernest Bramah, Hodder & Stoughton, London. 1927. First Edition. $225.00

Very good–near fine.

And the Gods Laughed by Fredric Brown, Phantasia, MI. 1987. First Edition. SIGNED. $200.00

Limited to 475 copies, numbered and signed by Brown and famous science fiction writer Mack Reynolds, who wrote the introduction. Very fine, as new copy in pristine dust jacket and slipcase.

The House at Satan’s Elbow by John Dickson Carr, Harper, NY. 1965. First Edition. $65.00

Very fine in dust jacket.

No Orchids for Miss Blandish by James Hadley Chase, Howell, Soskin, NY. 1942. First US Edition. $650.00

Scarce book, basis for the 1948 film of the same title. Very light rubbing to tips of spine, else near fine in dust jacket, which is worn at spine ends, along front flap fold and along bottom edge.

Fear Comes to Chalfont by Freeman Wills Crofts, Dodd, Mead, NY. 1942. First US Edition. $350.00

Very fine, crisp copy in dust jacket with just a bit of wear to spine extremities.

The Department of Queer Complaints by Carter Dickson, Morrow. NY. 1940. First Edition. $1,250.00

Scarce Queen’s Quorum title. Two bookplates inside front cover, one belonging to the legendary collector Adrian Homer Goldstone, a bit of offsetting to the front endpaper, else fine in dust jacket, which has a light wear at corners.

Unnatural Causes by P.D. James, Faber, London. 1967. Advance Proof Copy. $600.00

Author’s third book. Very fine in original wrappers. Rare.

Call for the Dead by John Le Carre, Walker, NY. 1962. First US Edition. $1,750.00

Author’s scarce first book, launching the career of one of the greatest of all espionage writers. A fine copy in a beautiful dust jacket with none of the usual soiling to the fragile white jacket. The top of the spine has a small crease, and there are two tiny , nearly invisible closed tears at the bottom edge.

A Murder of Quality by John Le Carre, Walker, NY. 1963. First US Edition. $1,500.00

Author’s scarce second novel. A fine, crisp copy in dust jacket, which has minor wear at spine ends and corners and a little sunning to the spine, though far less than usual.

Colonel Butler’s Wolf by Anthony Price, Gollancz, London. 1972. First Edition. $165.00

Author’s scarce third espionage novel. Very fine in bright, fresh dust jacket. Laid in is a note from the publisher presenting the book.

The Dead Letter by Seeley Regester, Beadle & Adams, NY. 1866. First Edition. $350.00

The first American detective novel and, of course, the first American detective novel by a woman. Apart from rubbing to the spine ends and corners, this is a nice-looking copy but unfortunately it is waterstained internally. A reasonable copy of a rare and important book.

Somebody Owes Me Money by Donald E. Westlake, Random House, NY. 1969. First Edition. SIGNED. $200.00

Very fine in dust jacket.
