Weekly Update 2/12/10

SIGNED BOOKS NOW AVAILABLE

Alex Berenson has signed his fourth thriller, The Midnight House. A retired CIA operative is shot to death in the street. That night, a former Army Ranger is gunned down. The next day CIA agent John Wells gets a call. Come to Langley. Now. A Thriller/Espionage Club Selection. $25.95

The Postmistress by Sarah Blake is set in London and Massachusetts in 1940. Don’t be put off that the three main characters are women: a reporter working with Edward R. Murrow in London; a young woman recently married to the local doctor in a Massachusetts town; and the postmistress of that town, a woman who knows more than she lets on about the mail passing through her hands. This is an exciting, moving tale of war seen from both sides of the Atlantic, and it is headed for the best seller lists. A First Mystery Club Selection. $25.95

Wallace Stroby was in the store talking about and signing his dark novel, Gone ‘Til November. Stroby doesn’t get the attention he deserves - his stories are compelling and his characters fully fleshed out. If you haven’t tried him, start here. $24.99

Jason Starr, a big fan of Wallace Stroby, stopped by to support Wally and sign his own graphic novel, The Chill. This is one dark story! $19.99

No Sleep Till Wonderland by Paul Tremblay is the author’s second mystery featuring Mark Genevich, the narcoleptic detective he introduced in The Little Sleep. A paperback original. $14.00

Kenneth Wishnia’s novel, The Fifth Servant, received a starred review in Publisher’s Weekly. We try not to care about such things, but the raves for this story about the murder of a young Christian girl in the Jewish ghetto of Prague in 1592, compel us to mention it. $25.99

Pariah by Dave Zeltserman has been named one of the best mystery novels of last year by many. We have signed copies of this paperback original. The first five to buy Pariah will receive a free signed Advance Reading Copy of his next novel, The Caretaker of Lorne Field, due out in July 2010. $14.95

SIGNED FROM THE UK

The Blasphemer by Nigel Farndale is a novel about two members of the same family forced to live with the moral consquences of their actions. When his light plane ditches into the sea, zoologist Daniel Kennedy faces a choice: should he save himself or Nancy, the woman he loves? In the parallel narrative, Daniel’s great grandfather Andrew is preparing to go over the top at Passchendaele in 1917. He too will have his courage tested. Farndale, unknown here, has been shortlisted for major prizes for his previous works. $32.50

The Last 10 Seconds by Simon Kernick is a stand alone featuring an undercover cop who has infiltrated one of London’s most dangerous criminal gangs, a policewoman who has just charged a notorious serial killer, and that serial killer who appears to have been kidnapped under the noses of the police. $37.50
