Weekly Update 12/18/09
SIGNED BOOKS NOW AVAILABLE
We now have in the signed limited copies of The First Rule by Robert Crais, and very handsome it is. We do have a few numbered copies left (we’ve sold out of the lettered copies) , so if you did not pre-order and would like a copy, please let us know as soon as possible, we think we’ll sell out by the end of the year. This edition is the true first edition. $150.00
It has been a while since we’ve had signed books by Loren D. Estleman, so we’re happy to be able to offer two of his books:
The Branch and the Scaffold is a novel which tells the story of hanging judge Isaac Parker who was the sole law throughout the Western District of Arkansas and the Indian Nations. $24.95
Alone is Estleman’s second mystery featuring Valentino. Included is a great bibliography and filmography of Greta Garbo (yes, her legend plays a prominent part in the story). $24.99
Faces of the Gone is the first in a series by Brad Parks who was a reporter with The Washington Post and The Star Ledger (Newark, NJ). Carter Ross is an investigative reporter called out when four bodies, each with a single bullet wound to the head, are discovered in a vacant lot. $25.99
NOT SIGNED, BUT
The Talented Miss Highsmith by Joan Schenkar is a detailed biography of the life and work of the very important Patricia Highsmith. A must for mystery buffs I’m thinking. $40.00
SIGNED FROM THE U.K.
Only one book arrived from the UK this week but it is The Monster in the Box by Ruth Rendell. This is her twenty-second mystery, by my count, featuring Inspector Wexford. $48.00
Me Tanner, You Jane by Lawrence Block, Macmillan, NY. 1970. First Edition. SIGNED. $100.00
First Tanner to be published in hardcover. Fine, without the ubiquitous remainder dot, in dust jacket.
Ariel by Lawrence Block, Arbor House, NY. 1980. First Edition. SIGNED. $45.00
Very fine in dust jacket.
The Burglar Who Studied Spinoza by Lawrence Block, Random House, NY. 1980. First Edition. SIGNED. $125.00
Very fine in dust jacket. Review slip laid in.
Like a Lamb to Slaughter by Lawrence Block, Arbor House, NY. 1984. First Edition. SIGNED. $40.00
Short story collection. Very fine in dust jacket. Inscribed and signed.
A Ticket to the Boneyard by Lawrence Block, Morrow, NY. 1990. First Edition. SIGNED. $35.00
Very fine in dust jacket. With the rare wraparound band. Inscribed and signed.
The Butterfly by James M. Cain, Knopf, NY. 1947. First Edition. $125.00
Fine in dust jacket, which has a trace of rubbing at corners.
The Problem of the Wire Cage by John Dickson Carr, Harper, NY. 1939. First Edition. $300.00
A fine copy of this Dr. Fell mystery in the scarce tennis-related dust jacket, which is lightly worn along edges and spine ends, with a small chip at the bottom of the front panel.
When the Cat’s Away by Kinky Friedman, Morrow, NY. 1988. First Edition. $35.00
The Kinkster’s third book. Fine in dust jacket.
The Devil to Pay by Ellery Queen, Stokes, NY. 1938. First Edition. $650.00
A bit of foxing, and the pale gray linen cloth has darkened, as usual- this is not soiling, but oxidation causing discoloration as on all copies examined - else about fine. The scarce dust jacket is dazzling, without a hint of wear, except that the rear flap inexplicably has been excised and replaced with a photocopy. It looks like the best copy in the world - but it’s not. Still, a difficult book in this condition.
Homicide by Leslie T. White, Harcourt, NY. 1937. First Edition. $150.00
A detective novel by the important Black Mask writer. Fine in a bright, lightly rubbed dust jacket with wear at spine ends.
To Find a Killer by Lionel White, Dutton, NY. 1954. First Edition. $100.00
Tiny stain on interior gutter, else very fine in fresh, bright dust jacket.
